Project Self-Sufficiency

Nurse-Family Partnership® (NFP) is a voluntary prevention program that provides nurse home visitation services to low-income pregnant women who are expecting their first child. Nurses begin home visits early in the mother's pregnancy and continue visitation until the child's second birthday. Nurses provide support, education and counseling on health, behavioral and self-sufficiency issues. Participants learn about pregnancy, nutrition, labor and delivery, healthy pregnancies and more. Nurses offer the support pregnant women need to have a healthy pregnancy, become knowledgeable and responsible parents, and provide their babies with the best possible start in life. The relationship between mother and nurse provides the foundation for strong families.

Participants can receive services in their own home or on site at Project Self-Sufficiency. Other activities and services include:

• Assessment Services;

• Case Management & Supportive Counseling;

• Training in Life Skills such as communication skills, budgeting, household management, balancing a checkbook, stress management, and more;

• Parenting Classes;

• Support Groups and Family Activities;

• Economic Self-Sufficiency Services;

• Support Services;

• Financial Assistance, such as subsidized childcare slots at the Little Sprouts Early Learning Center, transportation assistance, access to the food pantry and to clothing donations.
