Project Self-Sufficiency
Project Self-Sufficiency offers a variety of free legal advice, education and assistance programs for northern New Jersey residents.
Free Legal Consultations & Advice
Income eligible Sussex County residents are invited to meet privately with an attorney by phone or video chat to discuss their legal concerns. The free 30-minute consultations are scheduled by appointment.

Limited Legal Representation
Participants who are eligible for Legal Services of Northwest New Jersey (LSNWJ) services, and whose issue falls within LSNWJ's priorities may be provided with legal representation at no cost by LSNWJ.

Divorce Mediation Program
Individuals seeking a divorce can avoid a trial by seeking a legal divorce through mediation. Sessions are facilitated by attorneys who offer their services at a free or reduced rate, depending upon income-eligibility. Participation by both parties is voluntary; legal guidelines for participation apply.
Project Self-Sufficiency also offers a court accompaniment program, pro se divorce workshops, and do-it-yourself legal clinics. All services are free to income-eligible participants.
Legal consultations are available by phone only during the current public health crisis.
Funding for the legal education and assistance programs is provided in part by the IOLTA Fund of the Bar of New Jersey.
